Safer Driving Accessories

Mirror Extenders

When driving your car, regardless of if its business or pleasure, accidents are bound to happen. Whether you are a good driver or a bad driver, visibility is very important.

There are several things you should keep in mind when driving, including:

Pay Attention
Don’t allow for distractions. Make sure that all portable devices (cell phones, music devices, etc.) are hidden to resist temptation. If you are very susceptible to distractions, turn the radio off.

Always Be Cautious
If it looks like nothing’s coming, is nothing still coming? Yielding is always safer than risking your life because you thought nothing was there.

Communicate with Other Drivers
Communicate with other drivers using your body language as well as your vehicle. Signal turns, and make eye contact.

Always Wear your Seatbelt
Use all the safety equipment in the vehicle properly. Seatbelts should be securely fastened; children should be securely in their car seats.

Know Your Limitations
Know what your physical limitations are, and what the limitations of your vehicle are. Know where your vehicle is in relation to the road, and others. Know your blind spots.

Blind spots are different for everyone depending on their physical capabilities and the size of the vehicle. If you are a 3 foot-tall person in an SUV, your blind spot would be much different from the blind spot of a 6 foot-tall person in a compact car.

To help with these blind spots, mirror extenders are available that attach directly to your existing mirror. There are 3 different types of extender, one that slips over your interior mirror, and 2 that screw in to the top of the exterior side mirrors. These extenders can decrease your blind spots to less than half the size they originally were. The interior mirror allows you to see not only out your back window, but to see out the windows on the side of your vehicle. The exterior mirrors make it so that you can see the vehicles in the lane beside you, until they have passed. These mirrors can help you to see everything surrounding you while driving, making your driving a more relaxing and safe experience.
